Julie Phillips has fond memories of her 90th birthday which she recently celebrated. The Raynham woman spent the milestone day jumping out of a plane.

"Once I make up my mind to do something I'm going to do it. Don't say you can't do it," said Phillips.

The great grandmother got the idea while watching parachutes in the sky during a visit with her son in California 5 years ago. But at that time she wasn't ready to take the plunge.

"I say I'm too young. I'm only 85. I'll come back when I'm 90," said Phillips.

Sure, Phillips could have chickened out, but she didn't. On March 7th the birthday girl suited up and boarded the plane. At 12,500 feet up in the air Phillips made her big jump.

"I got brave and I opened my eyes," she said. "I looked up, you know, at heaven to my husband, and went yup I'm doing it!"

After the dive the school gave Phillips her own diploma of sorts– she keeps it here on the fridge to remind her daily of her accomplishment. She plans to eventually frame the certificate as proof of her parachuting adventure. But would she ever do again?

"Once you do something on the bucket list you don't repeat it you need something different!" replied Phillips.

So it's on to the next. Phillips says bungee jumping is out, but likes other ideas including windsurfing or going up in a hot air balloon. Everyone will just have to wait until next year to see which she chooses.
