SMITHFIELD, RI- With heads bowed, Bryant University students think of the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings right before taking a one–mile run through the Smithfield campus.

They're reminded that tragedy can happen at anytime, anywhere.

“I just think it's important to never forget. What tore our community down but what really brought it together again; to show our strength," said organizer, Ashley Cardona.

Cardona organized this run last year. Over 200 runners participated. Although the numbers have dwindled, the motivation is just as high.

Erika Kirk said, "For me, this is something that really touches home. I grew up in a family that loves running. I've been volunteering at the marathon since I was three years old."

About 50 students ran these hills and flats; some in Boston strong T–shirts.

“It's really fantastic to have everybody come together and run just one simple mile but have that one mile represent something so much and how such a strong community, exactly like Boston strong, and it's just fantastic."

The school is also selling special Boston Strong T–shirts that have the school's mascot, a bull dog on it.

So far they're raised almost $700. Proceeds will go to the one fund.
