Blue and yellow Boston Strong wristbands worn by everyone from President Barack Obama to the Red Sox were actually designed by a local 11–year–old. Lindsey Arruda of Somerset created the bracelets online and began ordering them the day after last year’s marathon.

Lindsey with the help of her family has sold thousands of bracelets, won numerous awards and raised nearly $11,000 for the One Fund.

"We were surprised to see the first responders, spectators, and volunteers going towards the bombs instead of away from it to help others and that's when they inspired me to make the wristbands,” said Arruda.

Lindsey wasn't actually at the race when the bombs went off. She says luckily her family overslept that day and only saw the terror unfold on TV. After watching the horrifying footage, she created the wristbands the very next day.

"Within minutes people started purchasing my wristbands,” said Arruda.

The whole family has pitched in countless hours packaging and mailing the bracelets which they sell on EBay for $5 each.

"It's amazing that the idea she came up with was so simple and pure and ended up huge,” said Eudoxia Tsongalis-Arruda, Lindsey’s mom.

Lindsey has received dozens of thank you letters for her contributions from big names including the President, Vice President, and Patriot's owner Robert Kraft. But among the most meaningful to her...

"Probably the Red Sox because I love baseball," said Lindsey Arruda.

Lindsey has received numerous awards and honors for her work. Most recently she was chosen for the Massachusetts Prudential Spirit of Community Award for which she will soon travel to DC. In addition she has received a civilian community service award from the President and a citation from Governor Deval Patrick for helping the One Fund.
