Democratic gubernatorial candidate Angel Taveras as rolled out his plan to streamline infrastructure projects in Rhode Island.

His plan, “The Ocean State Infrastructure Trust,” would create a $800 million that would grant low or no interest loans to help municipalities make needed investments in their infrastructure.

The plan also calls for a single board to administer the trust and determine which infrastructure projects should get the funding.

“We need to streamline the process, make it easier and make it quicker and also take the politics out of the decision making. That is what I have tried to do in Providence,” said Taveras.

Taveras said he will use the same budget discipline he used in Providence in order to make the program a successful. Taveras said he would reduce state expenditures by 1% in order to allow the state to contribute $40 million a year and he would issue a $100 million bond.

Taveras said his plan would assist local cities and town in tackling important infrastructure projects and providing municipalities with refinancing options for previous bonds used for school construction or repairs.
