Police have arrested a man suspected of shooting his ex-girlfriend's mother in the back.

Police have been searching for 32-year-old Joel Marcano Torres, also known as "Francisco Diaz" since Wednesday night when it is alleged that he gave his estranged girlfriend 25-year-old Jessica Nunez an ultimatum; stay with him or he would harm one of her family members.

Following the threat, Diaz allegedly flashed a gun and when Nunez's mother Theodora emerged from a bedroom it is alleged that he fired two shots at her. One of the shots hit Theodora in the back.

The 54-year-old woman is currently at Rhode Island in critical condition.

Diaz was believed to be heading to Boston, however, with the help of the FBI, Diaz was apprehended at 12:30 a.m. in the Bronx in New York.

Diaz and Jessica Nunez have a child together.
