The man accused of pointing a gun at a Cranston Police officer is being held without bail.

26-year-old Shawn Sykes was arraigned Monday morning in Providence District Court on felony assault charges, plus three firearm charges.

Sykes, who was wanted by police in Virginia for commercial sex charges, was arrested this weekend.

Police say after leading officers on a chase through Cranston and Providence, he got out of his car and pointed a gun at an officer. That officer then fired a shot that hit Sykes.

Sykes has a long criminal record in Rhode Island, where he's been charged with robbery and drug possession.
