A former basketball stand–out at URI who's now coaching the newly formed ABA team in the area the Providence Anchors praises the NBA commissioner's strong leadership.

Kyle Ivey-Jones says the quick decision to ban LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling for his racist remarks sends an important message.

"I hope that it sends the message that as athletes we have to handle ourselves with dignity, be smart show people that we are educated and that we don't have to stoop to that level and I hope it shows all owners in any sport that you can't do this," said Ivey-Jones.

The league where Ivey-Jones coaches calls itself the most diverse sports league ever with 75 percent of the teams owned by African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, and women. He says the strong and quick punishment by the NBA commissioner in this case will effect the future of basketball and certainly have an impact in his league.

"It will trickle down throughout the world. There's no place for it-you have to take a stand,” said Ivey-Jones.

But he's well aware despite all the progress intolerance still exists.

"Racism is still alive and well in society period and it shouldn't be,” said Ivey-Jones.

Ivey-Jones says he will be talking to his team about the ruling something within the next week.
