PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Former House Speaker Gordon Fox has returned to the Statehouse for the first time since federal raids on his home and office.
Fox said it was the "right thing to do'' as he headed into the session Wednesday afternoon.

"I have a responsibility to my constituents.  I'll try to do the best I can," said Fox.

Fox. who now sits in the back row of the House Chamber, was greeted with people throughout Wednesday's session.

"In terms of running into people in the hall, it's been well wishes and the kindness and humanity has bowl me over it really has," said Fox.

Fox's Statehouse office and home were raided by the FBI, IRS and state police on March 21. He resigned as speaker the following day, although he kept his seat representing Providence's East Side.
Authorities have not said what they are investigating, although they have been in touch with the Board of Elections, which keeps campaign finance records. They also subpoenaed the city of Providence.

Fox would not comment on the investigation.
