Many RI State Police Officers will now carry Narcan kits, which are used to treat opiate overdoses. 300 kits were purchased by the state to deploy to officers, detectives and RI Capitol Police. Officers were trained on its use. The kits contain a nasal application.

Colonel Steven G. O’Donnell said, "it's the right thing to do." There have been 90 overdose deaths in Rhode Island so far in 2014.
