It's the start of a long night for Providence police who have stepped up patrols around Providence College. They're worried about wild celebrations on the last day of school. It's been a problem in years past. There is more than a dozen Providence police officers circling PC's campus.

The party started early for Providence College students. It's their last day of school. The celebration in past years has been known to get out of control. Parties with over a thousand students. Kids cramped on porches, some have fallen off. These are all reasons why police are on almost every street corner near campus.

Lt. Patrick Reddy says, "It's the last day of school and they feel that they can do almost anything they want."

Lt. Patrick Reddy has 15 details patrolling the area, two on horseback. They started at 11 this morning.

"It's going overboard they're bringing in a dozen kegs and again when you have a thousand kids, a lot of drinking, a lot of stupidness, and that's what were here to stop," said Reddy.

Code Enforcement will also be out making sure balconies aren't overcrowded and unstable. The overall goal is to keep the peace without any serious issues.

"I hope nobody gets hurt number one whether it be the college students and or the police officers," said Reddy.
