PROVIDENCE, RI- In the last act before intermission of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey 'Legends' show, an aerial human chandelier is revealed and within seconds the unthinkable happens.

“At first we thought it was part of the show and as soon as it hit the ground I knew it was not," said Rosa Viveiros.

This was the first ever circus performance for Viveiros who was here with her husband, grandson and niece, Lillian Lannon.

"I was worried because when they fell, one guy ran off stage with a bloody head. Like I’m thinking, something hit him in the head and two girls were in neck braces and three girls were passed out and one girl was in a full body cast," said Lannon.

As soon as the performers hit the ground the lights were turned off to shield the crowd but people say they saw everything, including little children.

"Everybody got hurt a lot," said Gavin Viverios.

"Ambulances came in and they helped people. They brought like ten or twelve people out on stretchers but they seem to all be fine," said a witness named Allen.

Nine people were sent to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries; a scene that left many in shock.

"It's tragic and I hope that they are all ok.  You know cause it was a pretty big fall," said Viveiros.
