The Secretary of Veterans Affairs is under fire after accusations of negligence fraud and a potentially massive cover up.
This after the director of an Arizona VA Hospital is accused of keeping double books in order to cover up dozens of veterans who died while awaiting care and over one thousand other sick veterans on a waiting list for care for several months. The U.S. government has now ordered a review of all veteran’s hospitals.
Rhode Island' Senator Jack Reed said the allegations cannot be taken lightly
“We want to get to the bottom of this. We want to fix this. If they require additional resources then it is our responsibility, the congress, to provide those resources. if it is a managerial problem and they have to make changes those changes should be made,” said Reed.
Some lawmakers are calling on Veterans Affairs secretary Eric Shinseki to resign. Shinseki has been subpoenaed by a house committee to testify on the matter.
