Meet Ken Block: (R) Candidate for Rhode Island Governor

With two well–known candidates in the race, the battle for the Republican nomination for Governor should be quite a fight.

This is Ken Block's second run for Rhode Island Governor. He says he's doing it to promote small businesses, and for his two kids.

"I want them to graduate and remain Rhode Islanders in their adult lives. But if we stay on the economic course that we are on, if we stay on the track that we are on right now. I know that they are going to leave this state" said Ken Block, (R) Candidate for RI Governor.

"As a small business owner, I know the disadvantages that accrue to me, and my company, and my employees by doing business here as opposed to doing business in Massachusetts,” Block added.

Block wants cut to the corporate tax, and the estate tax, and conduct a test to lower sales tax in a community bordering Massachusetts or Connecticut.

"The only way we are going to bring jobs back to our state; the only way we are going to turn our state around, is top correct the economic imbalance that we have, and the uncompetitive posture that we have, relative to our neighbors,” Block said.

ABC6 Chief Political Reporter Mark Curtis said, "Here's more profile information on Ken Block.

He's a software engineer by trade, who graduated from Dartmouth, and has lived in Barrington for 20 years."

And while fellow candidates are taking aim at gun control, or legalized marijuana and other social issues, block has little interest in making social politics a big part of his campaign.

"The vast majority of Rhode Islanders have as their first and foremost primary concern, jobs and the economy. And for too long they have listened to politicians pay lip service to the idea of fixing our economy, but we're still dead last," Block said.

Block who ran for Governor four years ago, under the Moderate Party, says he can attract enough independents along with Republicans, to win the race.

"This message resonates. The fact that I have specific ideas on how to fix it, is the game changer in this race,” said Block.

Ken Block founded two companies: Simpatico Software and Cross Alert Systems.

He says his business experience will be invaluable as Governor.
