A major step forward Monday night in the plans to redevelop the Dynamo House in Providence into a nursing education center.

The R.I. Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the proposed 15 year lease for the project.

The $206 million project is a joint collaboration between- Brown, URI and Rhode Island College.

URI and Rhode Island College would share the space for their nursing programs. The building would also house administration offices for Brown. The plan relies on a public-private partnership.

"This is a very exciting project because first and foremost, it will enhance nursing education in the state of Rhode Island both with the University of Rhode Island and at Rhode Island College. It is a joint effort, but the two schools will remain independent," said Richard Licht the Director of the Department of Administration.

The General Assembly still needs to approve the lease.

Governor Chafee says the goal would be for classes to start in the Fall of 2016.
