A brother and sister were shot while driving in broad daylight Wednesday on Wendell Street in Providence.
Aspiring rapper 20–year–old Devon Taylor was killed and 15–year–old Destiny Taylor was shot and badly injured.
"They're taking it hard. My families really taking it hard,” said a cousin of Devon and Destiny, Ramell Jones Ramey.
As police investigated the shooting, large gatherings of family and friends stood by in shock, trying to make sense of what happened.
"They were real nice people. I knew them for years because they're my family. I'm going to miss my cousin Devon," said Jones Ramey.
A vigil is growing in the spot where Taylor was killed.
Witnesses report hearing multiple shots fired around 4 O’Clock. A neighbor, who asked not to be identified got home minutes after the shooting.
"I saw this red car into one of those little mini bulldozers and I just looked to my right and I saw a guy just laying in back on the seats and I see another young woman I think it was his sister who was shot a couple of times in the back," said the neighbor.
A road crew was working a few feet away when the shooting happened. The fact that it was still light out makes residents even more worried for their safety.
"I'm really concerned you know. What else can the city do to protect us from stuff like this in broad day light? Kids are playing in the streets, said a neighbor.
At last check Destiny Taylor underwent surgery at Rhode Island Hospital.
