Workers today broke ground on the expansion of the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum in Newport.

The $16 million project includes a new tennis facility with three indoor and outdoor hard courts, new locker rooms, a fitness center, and retail space.

Technology and museum exhibits will also be upgraded along with improvements to the stadium.

A ground breaking ceremony was held earlier today.

“It's a great day you know, this has been a vision for the last three years, we've been working hard for the last three years to raise 16 million dollars,” says Mark Stenning, Tennis Hall of Fame CEO.  “And to see everything come together and the groundbreaking I’m told in 15–20 minutes well hear back hoes and workers."

Construction will take about 16 months.
