Feeding Foxboro Community Farmstand vandalized

FOXBORO - The Feeding Foxboro Community Farmstand was donated more than 23 years ago, but now, thanks to vandals, it's wrecked beyond repair. If the community can't come up with $10,000.000 in the next few short weeks, it may not be able to open for the summer.

Hungry families in Foxboro depend on the community farmstand for both food, and money, every summer.

The empty structure usually hibernates behind the fence at the local DPW, but this past winter it was stored across the street... unprotected from vandals who destroyed the backside and the cooling units.

"That's all of our refrigeration area where the fruits and vegetables go and we can't fix it," said volunteer Michele Gawronski.

The vandalism is devastating to the more than 100 volunteers who work each week to plant, pick, and then sell the produce, all on their own time.

"From age, I'd say 6 or 7, up through 85, 90... People who are elderly, who have been doing this for a long time, they've been doing it for 25 years," said volunteer Rachel Calabrese.

"We've had our boy scouts painting it every year, i mean it becomes a labor of love quite frankly and to see something like this happen to it, is just totally unnecessary," said volunteer Elizabeth Hall.

The community must collect 10 thousand dollars before July 7th if they are to open on–time, with a new portable refrigeration unit.

If you'd like to make a monetary donation send a check to the Foxboro Discretionary Fund, P.O. Box 636, Foxboro, MA 02035 and write "Foxboro Community Farm Stand" on the memo line.
