A former North Kingstown attorney has been arrested for alleged unlawful appropriation of over $40,000.

State Police say that back in August of 2010, while 65-year-old James Currier was representing a client, he deposited a $46,291.11 check from AllState into his client account and later withdrew the funds for his own use.

Currier was disbarred in Rhode Island in March of 2013 after the Disciplinary Board found he had violated Rules of Professional conduct when he failed to promptly deliver his client funds she was entitled to receive, commingled those funds with his own and misappropriated those funds for his own personal use.

Currier was charged with unlawful appropriation over $1,000 and arraigned at Providence Superior Court.

He was released on $15,000 personal recognizance.
