55 students from Pawtucket honored fallen veterans by flagging their graves Friday. About 900 flags were placed in Saint Francis Cemetery. The remains of more than a thousand veterans, including from the Civil War, lay in the cemetery.

High school senior Nicholas Martinez, 17, is the son of an Army veteran. He plans to enlist as well.

“It’s important to be here today to honor the soldier who gave their lives for our freedom,” said Martinez.

The placing of the flags continued at Mineral Spring Cemetery.
