"Who do we hire to turn around Rhode Island?" says the Fung for Governor TV Ad."

The first television ad for the 2014 Governor's race comes from Republican Allan Fung. The ads begin airing next Tuesday.

"These ads are going to define to all the people of Rhode Island, all the positives that we are doing," said Fung, currently the Mayor of Cranston.

Fung's opponent Ken Block will have his ads on TV soon, but the sniping has already begun.

"It doesn't surprise me that Mayor Fung is out and getting out very early at this point. If his polls show what my polls show, he's in trouble. I think he knows it," said Block.

"Unlike someone who is a millionaire, from out of state, that comes in here, that thinks he knows everything… I’m a Rhode Islander,” Fund shot back.

Block then responded, “We feel that our message is getting out. The poll proves it's getting out."

We talked to the campaigns of Gina Raimondo and Clay Pell, but they declined to discuss their ad strategy. Democrat Todd Giroux only has $35 dollars in his campaign account.

ABC6 Chief Political Reporter Mark Curtis said, "There is a myth about political advertising – that the candidate with the most money always wins. Well, that's simply not the case."

Providence Mayor Angel Taveras says his ads for governor will be on TV soon.

"As you know, I mean, I was out spent two–to–one, when I ran for Mayor, and won the election by about 20 points. So, I look forward to making sure that all the people of Rhode Island know where I'd like to take our state."

The primary election is September 9th, and you'll see a lot of these ads between now and then.
