Several communities hold Memorial Day ceremonies, parades

Communities across Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts are holding special services and parades on Memorial Day Monday, May 26. Some local commemorations include:

Attleboro: The parade starts at 10:00 a.m. at 2 Hodges Street and includes a ceremony at 11:30 at Capron Park. The Kissing Sailor, George Mendonsa, will be the grand marshal.

Dartmouth: The parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. at Apponagansett Park and proceeds up Elm Street with stops on the Padanaram Bridge, South Dartmouth Cemetery and the police station.

Exeter: The 40th annual Rhode Island Memorial Day Commemoration will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery and feature music by the 88th Army Band.

Fall River: Battleship Cove will hold its traditional Memorial Day Ceremony beginning at noon, including the lowering and raising of the American flag from half staff, wreath laying, and a gun salute from USS Massachusetts' 5"guns. Lt Col William Gray USMC will be the guest speaker.

New Bedford: The Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Day Committee and the New Bedford Veterans’ Advisory Board will be holding the Annual Memorial Day Parade and Services beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the corner of Parker Street and Hathaway Boulevard. A ceremony will follow at Clasky Park.

North Kingstown: The annual North Kingstown Memorial Day Parade will kick off at 10:00 a.m. at Wilson Park and conclude with a ceremony at the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial at Elm Grove Cemetery. 

North Providence: The 7th annual North Providence Memorial Day Parade & Celebration starts at 1:00 p.m. at North Providence High School and concludes at Governor John A. Notte, Jr. Park.

Pawtucket: The city’s principal ceremony will take place at Veterans’ Memorial Ampitheatre at 11:00 a.m. Mayor Donald Grebien will be the principal speaker at the event.
