The Providence School Board voted to change the mileage requirement for students to get a free RIPTA pass.

Starting next school year students who live more than 2.5 miles from school will get a free RIPTA bus pass, which means an additional 800 students are eligible for a free ride to school on the bus.

The following year it will be reduced to two miles.

Right now, students are only eligible for the passes if the live three miles or more from the school.
