Hundreds of moms from around New England hit the practice field at Patriot Place Thursday night to learn how to keep their kids safe while playing sports.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft were on hand for the clinic.

“It’s important for us to talk about the rewards of playing the game of football.  It’s important for us to get the right information to moms and to families,” said Goodell.

Moms got the chance to learn tackle drills, how to properly fit equipment and how to detect signs of concussions.

“You’re always worried about injuries anytime there is a hit; anytime they go down you worry are they gonna get back up,” said Somerset mom Kathy Poirier.

The clinic comes on the same day President Obama hosted athletes and medical professions to talk about the issue of concussions.

“We got to have better research, better data, better safety equipment, better protocols.  We’ve got to have every parent and coach and teacher recognize the signs of a concussion,” said Obama.

Concussions go beyond blacking out.  Parents should be on the look out for headaches, blurred vision and changes in mood.
