A fire in South Providence has sent 8 firefighters to the hospital.

The three alarm fire at a vacant 3 story home on Prairie Ave happened just after 10 p.m. Friday night.

The Fire Chief tells us the firefighters were injured after part of the third floor of the building collapsed while they were inside.

He told ABC 6 the injuries are not serious.

The chief says the fire started on the 1st and 2nd floor. Firefighters had the blaze under control about an hour after it broke out.

The Providence Fire Department released a statement on their Facebook page stating that all 8 firefighters were treated and released from Rhode Island Hospital and are expected to recover.

He says the fire is considered suspicious and that it is under investigation.
