The Fall River Police Department conducted a surveillance of the area to investigate after neighborhood complaints of drag racing in the area of Airport Road and Innovation Way.

On Saturday, Sgt. William Mace and Officer Glen MacDonald observed several individuals they believed to be involved in activity related to the preparation of drag racing.

This activity included vehicles driving slowly to conduct counter surveillance as well as vehicles performing illegal maneuvers such as spinning tires and speeding.

Surveillance showed that individuals were exiting vehicles and talking about racing.

Continued surveillance observed two vehicles approaching an apparent start point and spinning their tires as they approached.

Sgt. Mace reports that “both vehicles accelerated to a high rate of speed at the exact same moment and the race began.”

Several vehicles fled the scene before the sergeant and officer were conducted a stop to the race, but they were able to stop the two vehicles involved in the race.

Sgt. Mace reports that as a result the two involved in the race were placed under arrest and six others who were spectators or participated in some way will be summonsed to court.

The sergeant also noted in his report that he observed a red line painted on the roadway and guardrails that was labeled ¼ mile.

The Fall River Police Department intends to conduct these types of operations anywhere we have confirmed reports of this type of activity.
