2 Firefighters injured in Fruit Hill Ave. fire

Posted: Updated:
Two firefighters were hurt Monday afternoon while battling a fire on Fruit Hill Avenue.

One of those firefighters was treated on scene the other was taken to the hospital with non life–threatening injuries.

The fire was started by someone removing paint with a heat gun.

The Assistant Fire Chief, Daniel Crowley says the two injured firefighters became trapped for a time and had to escape the burning building through a window.

"Because the fire was burning in all those void spaces it generated a tremendous amount of heat and smoke. They got disoriented and they actually exited out a window," said Crowley.

Crowley says that this is a situation that firefighters train for.
