The Providence Fire Department has a new member.

He's the first accelerant dog in Rhode Island and he's named after someone quite special to the department.

Meet Tyler, named after Burrillville boy Tyler Seddon.

The 18 month old pup has only been on the job for 3 weeks. The department was given the dog through state farm insurance, which had the idea to name the dog after Tyler.

The department says he'll be a huge help at fire scenes.

"He's just another tool for the arson investigation unit. He helps us increase our probability of getting a sample that when we send to the lab will come back as an accelerant," says Sean Reddy, Providence Arson Investigator.

Tyler Seddon hasn't gotten a chance to meet the dog just yet but a plan is in the works for after he gets out of the hospital from his bone marrow transplant.
