PROVIDENCE, RI- People who live in the Elmwood neighborhood are nervous after a series of fires in Providence were set over the last few days, on the same three streets.

Police are looking for the arsonist who set the fires, two of them destroyed garages.

Neighbors and police are concerned that if he continues, someone could be hurt.

Monday afternoon, firefighters battled one garage fire on Congress Avenue just after putting out a pile of burning shrubs across the street, and another garage fire in plain view on Lexington Avenue.

"Arson of a dwelling house is an up to life sentence. So it's a capital offense. It's very serious. These fires have both an impact on the direct property value but also the people that live in that neighborhood," said arson investigator, Paul Doughty.

Tony Simmons works in the neighborhood. He said, "We don't know when he's gonna strike again and we don't know if someone is liable to get hurt. We need to; the police needs to catch him."

The accelerant dog was used to sniff out any chemicals used; none were found.
