The owner of the stolen tugboat that was found partially submerged in the waters off Sabin Point Friday is offering a $5,000 cash reward for any information leading to an arrest in the case. The vessel was stolen just after midnight Tuesday.

The Coast Guard spent hours trying to re–float the beached tugboat which ran aground on a sand bar. The thieves were no where to be found. It is believed that they jumped ship.

"I've had the boat for over 10 years and never had any type of issue like this," said Ginalski.

The 40–foot boat belongs to Capt. Mark Ginalski. It was taken from the marina on Water Street in East Providence and was ditched in Riverside. Fisherman in the area spotted it and called for help saying there were at least two people on board.

"They saw the boat operating erratically, driving in circles and what not and where a boat of that size would not usually be seen," said Lt. Thomas Rush of the East Providence Police Department.

The tug was empty when crews with the fire and police departments arrived. The Coast Guard scoured the waters, but eventually called off the search.

The tug is used for dredging and salvaging. The captain estimates the cost of the damage at $50,000.

"I say you can take anything from man but never ruin his tools, because then he can't make a living. That's what I'm trying to do here. Make a living," said Ginalski.

Boaters say they will take extra precautions just incase the thieves come back.

"Stay with your boat. Pay attention to it. Very easy," said Dennis Lonardo who also docks his boat at the Water St. Marina.

Police have identified a person of interest, but so far no one has been charged.
