A Bristol man was sentenced to 15 years for a DUI death resulting charge.

50-year-old Joseph Kalen appeared in Newport County Superior Court Wednesday where he pleaded no contest to the charge.

Police say that around 4:45 p.m. on June 12, 2013 Kalen was drunk when his pick-up truck hit another car on Bristol Ferry Road in Portsmouth.

The driver of that car, 79-year-old Elia Giusti of Bristol, was pronounced dead after the accident.

According to reports, Kalen also hit another pick-up truck, causing non-life threatening injuries to that driver.

Blood tests showed that Kalen’s blood alcohol content was .249, more than three times the legal limit.

The Attorney General’s Office says Kalen will serve seven years, and spend the remainder of his 15-year sentence suspended with probation.
