The new state education numbers are out, and 31 percent of Rhode Island schools fall in either the warning, focus or priority categories, which are three lowest designations.

30 schools are commended, which is the highest. That number six more than last year. The numbers were released by the Department of Education.

Once again Providence schools are lagging behind. Half of the schools in the capital city fall in the bottom two categories of focus or priority.

Which according to Commissioner Deborah Gist is intentional.
