, R.I. (AP) _ Brown University and the Naval War College have signed an agreement to collaborate in research and teaching on international security.

Richard Locke, director of Brown's Watson Institute for International Studies, and Mary Ann Peters, provost of the Naval War College, signed the memorandum of agreement on Friday.

Under the agreement, the schools will collaborate on activities such as an annual distinguished lecture series, as well as create national security fellowships.

Brown University President Christina Paxson says the partnership will focus on solutions to contemporary security challenges such as cybersecurity and environmental change.

The graduate-level war college in Newport was established in 1884 and is the oldest such institution in the world.

The Ivy League Brown is in Providence and is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year.
