Two men were detained in federal custody today on allegations that they conspired to commit an armed home invasion in Providence.

Allen Prout, 42, of Providence, and Emmett Blyden, 43, expected to find two kilos of heroin and a large amount of cash in the Providence home.

The two men, both previously convicted of felony crimes, were arrested Friday evening moments after they allegedly took possession of firearms to be used in the planned robbery.

The firearms, which had been rendered inoperable, were delivered by an individual who was assisting ATF agents.

That individual had informed ATF agents that Prout had contacted him asking to set up a robbery for him and his crew.

Prout also inquired about the availability of firearms to be used during the robbery.

Multiple meetings were arranged with Prout and his crew to discuss a fictitious scenario involving the robbery of two kilograms of heroin and a large amount of cash from a residence that was being used as a storage site for narcotics traffckers.

Prout had planned to “lay them all down” when asked how many individuals would be at the location they planned to rob.

Moments after Prout and Blyden they took possession of the firearms in the last meeting, ATF agents entered the meeting and took the men into custody.

A criminal complaint is only an allegation and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
