State Police have arrested a former Bank Rhode Island branch manager accused of embezzling more than $70,000 from customers’ accounts.

Police say Victor Silva, 34, of East Providence, made several unauthorized withdrawals from three customer accounts between May and November of 2013 while he was branch manager of the Taunton Avenue branch in East Providence and fill-in manager at the Smithfield Avenue branch in Pawtucket.

Silva allegedly forged 14 withdrawal slips in total, and used the funds to pay his mortgage and other personal expenses.

Silva was charged with embezzlement by a bank officer or employee over $1,500 and forgery, and released on $10,000 personal recognizance. He is due back in court in August.
