Andrew Elsing and Amanda Brezniak are still getting used to their bald heads. They are two of twenty Rhode Island State Police Troopers who shaved all their hair off during the ‘Kid’s Cancer Buzz-Off’ at Gillette Stadium over the weekend.

“It takes a little bit to get used to. It’s a good thing it’s the summer, because your head gets a little cold,” joked Trooper Elsing.

The RI State Police team joined hundreds of men, women and children at the event which helps raise money for the ‘One Mission’. The organization in turn helps to provide services for pediatric cancer patients. One of those patients, an 11-year-old girl named Camille, was the teams buzz buddy. She was the one to clip the Troopers’ hair.

“For her to show up that day and be part of our team and share her story with us really touched home,” said Trooper Elsing.

Of the Troopers that participated, Brezniak was the only female.

“She’s [Camille] going through recovery for a very bad cancer, and I think she was very happy to have someone there to support her- one of the girls- who was doing this, because she had lost her hair and is actually still in the process of growing it out,” she said.

The Rhode Island State Police team raised nearly $14,000 for the cause, making them the 4th highest fundraising group in the country.   The team is already looking ahead to next year, and hopes that more female Troopers will join in.

“I can honestly say it’s a very worth while experience,” said Trooper Brezniak.

The team is still collecting donations. Their team page can be found at: http://my.e2rm.com/TeamPage.aspx?EventID=134848&LangPref=en-CA&TeamID=495000
