Senator John McCain spoke to a packed crowd at the Naval War College in Newport Thursday night answering many questions about the current situation in Iraq.

McCain says the crisis is one of the most serious he can recall.

Currently, Islamic insurgents are preparing to storm Baghdad. The United States is telling Iraq's prime minister that it'll intensify security support in the country.

President Obama says his team is working around the clock to figure out how to provide the most effective assistance.

Senator McCain says he predicted this unrest in Iraq. He's now calling for the President's national security team to be replaced.

"It's an immediate emergency. I would call in the people that won in Iraq and the leader of the of course is General David Petraeus," said Senator McCain.

Senator Whitehouse who helped introduce Senator McCain at Thursday's lecture does not think the national security team should be let go.

"I'm going to reserve judgment on the president's plan to address those overlapping threats and problems until we've had the chance to be briefed by his national security team on what they intend their plan to be,” said Senator Whitehouse.

The Obama administration says it does not intend to put troops on the ground. Senior administration officials do say the U.S. is considering drone missions.
