The museum at the Rhode Island School of Design has been a leading museum of art and design for well over a century. The 12th century Buddha, the mummy of the priest Nesmin from 250BC, both very popular artifacts at the museum but both haven't been viewed by the public in over year due to a major renovation.

Starting Friday, the new galleries will open. The 8.4 million dollar project started back in 2006. The new ancient Egyptian art, asian art, and a costume and textile study center are the last openings of the project. Ann Woolsey, Director of Planning at the museum says, "the project renovated 3 floors of this building. We have a fantastic world class collection and now it has a home worthy of it."

The museum is open Tuesday - Sunday. Next Thursday evening will be a party celebrating the new galleries. On Thursday evenings and all day Sunday, admission is free.
