PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ A new national survey has found that teenagers in Rhode Island are making healthier choices than teens in other states.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released the 2013 Youth Risk Behavior Survey Thursday.

The Rhode Island Department of Public Health said the state "fares far better'' than other states in reducing teen smoking, tobacco use, drinking, fighting, prescription drug use, unsafe sexual behaviors and soda consumption.

The department said that while the survey results are encouraging, there were areas of concern, including suicide attempts among youths, lack of daily physical activity and unsafe weight loss practices.
