BOSTON (AP) _ The five Democrats running for governor and other statewide candidates are gearing up to deliver campaign pitches to thousands of activists from across the state gathered for the party's nominating convention in Worcester.

At stake is both the party's official endorsement, and for those who do not receive the endorsement, a spot on the September primary ballot.

Candidates need at least 15 percent support to advance.

The convention resumed on Saturday with votes set for later in the day. Gov. Deval Patrick, who is not seeking re-election, addressed the gathering Friday night, along with U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Edward Markey.

The gubernatorial candidates are Attorney General Martha Coakley, state Treasurer Steven Grossman, business executive Joseph Avellone, former federal health care administrator Don Berwick and former homeland security officer Juliette Kayyem.
