The General Assembly has approved legislation that would establish a comprehensive school program to provide courses to instruct in the prevention of child abduction, child sexual exploitation and child sex abuse.

The law, known as Erin’s Law, is already in effect in 12 states. It is named after Erin Merryn of Illinois who was from the age of 6 was repeatedly raped by a neighbor and at the age of 11 was sexually abused by a relative. As an adult she has committed herself to educating children about it is important to tell someone about sexual abuse.
