The Rhode Island Department of Health has closed two local beaches due to bacteria.

Officials announced Thursday that the water quality at Conimicut Point Beach in Warwick and King Park Beach in Newport is unsuitable for swimming because of high bacteria counts.

Water quality will be tested continually to determine when the beaches can be re-opened.

Beach status may change on a daily basis so officials recommend that beachgoers call 401-222-2751 for up-to-date information.
