PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Rhode Island's General Assembly heads into what is scheduled to be its final day with bills pending on high-stakes testing, teacher evaluations and table games at Newport's casino.

The House and Senate were scheduled to meet Friday after members left the Statehouse Thursday night with unfinished business on the table.

The speaker and Senate president had been negotiating details of some bills, including one on a proposed ballot measure on authorizing table games at Newport Grand.

Also under discussion are education bills to limit evaluations for some teachers and to delay the use of standardized tests as a high school graduation requirement.

A bill to restore ethics commission jurisdiction over lawmakers was thought to be dead. An effort to make calamari the official state appetizer still had life.
