North Providence biz closes, owes money to employees

NORTH PROVIDENCE - The phone number for Doctor Suds on mineral spring in North Providence has been disconnected.

The doors are locked... the lights off.... and delivery slips are piling up on the door.

It's been that way for about two months now, but former employees tell us  it was a surprise to them when they showed up for a normal work day on a Friday in mid–April.

"There was no one there, we went back there and there was nobody there," said one former employee, who chose to remain anonymous.

He said  that since then paychecks from several weeks of work are still missing.

"Between like $800 and $950, two paychecks."

He says that before the sudden closure workers were told there would be a new owner - but neither staffing, nor shifts, would change.

We tried to contact both owners but never heard back.

Now... the Department of Labor and Training is facing two complaints filed against Doctor Suds – one before the closure, and one filed right after.

And while employees are angry about their missing wages... they say, there's even more on the line.

"It's been hard, it's just, it's even worse now because I can't even use them as a reference," said the former employee.

The Dept. of Labor and Training is encouraging anyone in this situation to file a complaint by clicking here.
