RI Republican Party endorses Allan Fung

Posted: Updated:

WARWICK -  The Rhode Island Republican Party has endorsed Allan Fung in the race for governor.

The GOP Convention was held Thursday night.

Fung beat out candidate Ken Block by a vote of 120 to 46.

"I am very excited with the overwhelming support that we received tonight from the Republican Party.  You know it means a lot to me.  I've been you know a proven leader, real reform, real results coming out of the City of Cranston," said Fung.

During the convention a motion was made to give no endorsement, but that was quickly voted down.

"Wasn't unexpected, would have been nice to have the party endorsement for governor, but the last endorsed republican for governor who won office who actually won the primary was 1980 Governor DiPrete, so I am hearten by the results and looking forward to a victory in September," said Ken Block.

Ken Block and Allan Fung are running on the Republican Primary.  Gina Raimondo, Todd Giroux, Clay Pell and Angel Taveras are all running in the Democratic Primary.
