After a year long struggle a Providence pool closed due to funding issues will re-open Monday. Last year the city shut down the Davey Lopes pool, but South Side residents fought to save it. Workers have been making repairs to the pool since May.

Mayor Angel Taveras had wanted to close the pool last summer because it was costing the city too much money to keep it up and running. At one point their was even talks about filling the pool with cement.

The community rallied around the swimming spot, which is located on Dudley St., and a group of city councilors was able to find the nearly $100,000 needed to fix it up.

The work wrapped up just in time for summer. The Davey Lopes pool opens at the same time as the city pools.

A ribbon cutting ceremony kicks off at 12. The pool officially opens at 1.
