Providence courthouse to reopen after flooding

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ A Providence courthouse is reopening after court officials were forced to close it because of a broken sprinkler head.

The Garrahy Judicial Complex is expected to reopen for full operations and hearings Wednesday. It closed Tuesday morning after the sprinkler head flooded part of the building and shut down the public elevators.

The complex houses several courts and offices, including district court and family court. The broken sprinkler triggered a fire alarm shortly before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. The court credited the Providence Fire Department with minimizing the water damage.

Elevator service was later restored. Some Family Court operations on the third floor may be temporarily relocated because of the flooding. Signs will be posted to direct visitors to alternate rooms.
