A corrections officer at the ACI is on paid administrative leave, accused of threatening to kill his girlfriend, first responders, and another officer at the ACI. 49–year–old Kenneth Barros was arrested at his East Providence home last night and stripped of his weapons.

Barros appeared before a judge in Providence District Court, charged with domestic disorderly conduct. East Providence police were called to his home Sunday night by Barros' live in girlfriend.

Lt. Raymond Blinn said, "There was violent tumultuous behavior that occurred at that residence and the officer chose to make an arrest at that point."

The girlfriend told police they had a fight and that he threatened to "bash her teeth in" and "blow her brains out." When she called 9–1–1, she said he threatened to kill her, first responders, and himself.

"Anytime you have a situation with a weapon and domestic violence it's always a cause for concern," said Lt. Blinn.

The girlfriend also said Barros was having trouble at the ACI, where he's worked for the past 27 years as a corrections officer. She said he had threatened to shoot people there. She even gave police the name of the lieutenant at the prison who Barros allegedly had it out for.

We caught up with Barros at the East Providence police department after his arraignment.

Barros said, "I never said anything about threats towards her, so she was just irate and that was it."

We asked him about the threats towards other officers at the ACI. He said, "that was a lie also, I have too much to lose, it's not really worth it."

Police say Barros has no record and the ACI has no reports of him having issues there.

Lt. Raymond Blinn says they take these types of threats very seriously.

"Anytime you have threats of going into the workplace or affiliated with domestic violence that involve weapons and hurting people that's as serious as you get and well deal with them," he said.

Barros has been ordered to have no contact with his girlfriend. He'll be back in court for a pre-trial hearing at the end of this month.
