The body of a Providence teen has been pulled from a Central Massachusetts quarry. A large search had been conducted to help find him after the 18-year-old jumped off a ledge into the water and never resurfaced.

Crews were about two hours into the second day of searching Fletcher Quarry in Milford, Mass. when they made the tragic discovery. Fire and police officials confirm that the body of Nentor Dahn was recovered before 11 AM Monday.

Sunday afternoon a group of 5 friends from Rhode Island had been taking turns jumping off a 40 foot ledge into the quarry. Witnesses say when Dahn hit the water he landed funny and never resurfaced. Crews scoured the water in grid patterns and using sonar found him about 70 feet down- and 10 feet from the ledge- in the murky water. The fire chief says the quarry is a popular but dangerous spot for thrill seekers.

“It’s extremely dangerous and its a quarry where they cut into the stone so as you go down and there is different jet outs on the cliff its self so the potential for striking one of those is there,” Chief Thomas O'Laughlin of the Milford Fire Dept.

Emergency officials in the town say this is not the first drowning at Fletcher Quarry. They can recount several in just the last few years. They hope, given the terrible circumstances, swimmers will now reconsider.

The quarry is on private property. No trespassing signs are posted.
