A Navy Captain and Rhode Island native is retiring after 30 years of service.

Captain Jim Cunha of Rumford will be relinquishing command as Commanding Officer at the Naval Academy Preparatory School on Friday morning.

Captain Cunha assumed command in January 2010 after a lengthy and successful naval career. He will be relieved by Captain Mike Doherty in a formal change-of-command ceremony at Naval Station Newport.
