PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A security specialist at the Rhode Island prisons department is charged with using credit the department had at a police supply company to purchase nearly $5,000 worth of personal ammunition.
State police say 53-year-old Gerald Masso, of North Providence, has been charged with two felony counts of fraudulent conversion.
Police say they began investigating Masso, an 18-year veteran of the Department of Corrections, in March at the request of the director. Masso is accused of using department credit at the store twice to buy ammunition worth $4,681.
Masso was arrested Friday and released on $10,000 personal recognizance. He is due in District Court on Sept. 11.
A phone call to a number listed for Masso went unanswered Friday.
